Description

Alzheimer's Disease is a devastating illness that alters family systems and self-identity.

This introductory / intermediate level program provides participants with the educational skill set to assess and develop a plan of care with older clients with Alzheimer's Disease, through review of diagnostic criteria, research based evidence and case presentation. Programs and specialized interventions to enhance the quality of life, social interactions, and meaningful moments for the person with Alzheimer's are reviewed, as well as clinical interventions with families and caregivers.


Participants participating in this program will be able to:

* Define the difference between normal cognitive aging and dementia

* Name two of the stages of Alzheimer's Disease

* Identify and element of the physiological changes that takes place in the brain in Alzheimer's Disease

* Identify two environmental adaptive changes that might be initiated in the home

* Give an example of how to reduce caregiver stress and burnout

Registration Cost:

$15.00 (non-refundable) Administrative fee for on-line registration

(registration to pay by check at the door still requires on-line registration, as we may not have seating for those who do not register)

Live Workshop Continuing Education Credit Information:

Full attendance is required: no partial credits will be offered for partial attendance.

New York Social Workers: The HDRT Group is recognized by the New York State Education Department's (NYSED) State Board for Social Work as a conditionally* approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers # 0301. This activity will qualify for 2.0 (clinical) contact hours.

* Conditional approval still gives the HDRT Group full ability to provide CE credits for this program.

Social Workers: The HDRT Group, Provider # 1445, is approved as a provider for social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) www.aswb.org through the Approved Continuing Education (ACE) Program. ASWB Approval Period ( 6/08/15-6/08/16). Social Workers should contact their regulatory board to determine course approval for continuing education credits. Social Workers participating in this course will receive 2.0 (clinical) continuing education clock hours.

Case Managers: This program has been pre-approved by the Commission for Case Manager Certification to provide continuing education credit to Certified Care Managers (CCMs). CCMs participating in this course will receive 2.0 continuing education clock hours.

Certificates of course completion will be individually distributed at the end of the workshop, and the submission of workshop evaluation form. Certificates must be sign by participants at the time of receipt.

About the Instructor:

Anne B. Pagano, LCSW, ACSW, BCD, C-ASWCM, is the Executive Director of the Hoarding Disorder Resource and Training Group, Inc. She has over 30 years' experience in direct clinical services, supervision, administration and education in hospitals and long term care facilities. Anne was an adjunct professor at the Fordham University Graduate School of Social Services for 9 years. She holds a Master's in Social Work from Simmons College of Social Work in Boston and a Post-Master's Certificate in Gerontology from the Hunter-Brookdale Center on Aging in New York City.
