Event description

Description

The panel discussion will break down the conceptualization behind ALYX. How the building of the brand started and came to fruition. Additional touchpoints in the conversation will be talking about the impact it has had on today’s culture and the integration of subversive culture.

Matthew Williams

Matthew Williams is the founder of 1017 ALYX 9SM, one of the more recent brands to debut at Paris Fashion Week, and one whose enormous hype is totally justified.

Williams was born in Chicago, raised in Pismo Beach, California, and now lives in Ferrara, Italy (where ALYX’s production takes place). His aesthetic captures the zeitgeist, with 1017 ALYX 9SM referencing security through Matthew Williams’ design innovations and treading a line between luxe streetwear, high fashion, and fetish-esque leatherwear with aplomb.

OK-RM

Founded in 2008 by Oliver Knight & Rory McGrath, the studio is a collaborative design studio engaged in ongoing partnerships with artists, curators, editors, architects, designers, and institutions.

For them, design is a conversation. Their art direction aims to engage clients, commissioners, and collaborators in a process that not only communicates who they are but clarifies what they are. Whether it’s a book, space or a visual identity, our designs seek to reflect a set of core values. This way of working often leads to ongoing relationships that track the evolution of a brand or body of work.

JO-ANN FURNISS

Jo-Ann Furniss is an editor, creative director, and writer. She was Editor-in Chief of Arena Homme Plus from 2004-2011. She has worked on various publications including i-D, The Face, Sleazenation and Another Magazine. Furniss has also contributed features to The Independent newspaper, The New York Times, Style.com, Vogue Hommes International (Japan), Colors, Dazed and Confused and Love Magazine.
