Description

Can economic-led regeneration secure London’s resilience for a new future?

London’s population is set to grow to over 10 million in the next 15 years. While solutions to housing dominate the capital’s agendas to adapt to this growth, unless London’s suburbs are to become dormitory towns for a concentrated work centre, economic regeneration across the city must be a central plank of the capital’s growth.

However, we hear almost daily of big business collapsing. The rumoured death of the high street is widely reported. If the UK exits the EU, predictions for business impact are critical. 60% of businesses fold within their first 3 years.

We are already seeing the seeds of economic-led regeneration as an important route to resilience in London’s communities. Planning policy finally stemming the tide of loss of industrial land, City Hall’s focus on securing Good Growth and the emergence of key business sector clusters in the capital – Old Street’s Tech City, Kings Cross

Creative Quarter and the forthcoming Eastbank cultural district in the Olympic Park.

But what next? How can economic growth work alongside the capital’s current and future pressures – housing, transport, and infrastructure? And how to ensure economic growth can be delivered sustainably, and doesn’t leave behind communities that could most benefit from the opportunities on the doorstep?

Join us for an evening of discussion and debate with the people leading the capital’s economic agenda.

Drinks and snacks will be provided.

All Future of London alumni and their guests are welcome!
