Event description

Description

Are you excited about cutting-edge technologies? Have you ever thought about building a company? Come to the Caltech Entrepreneurs Panel to learn how Caltech alumni bring technologies to start-ups, and resources provided by OTTCP that can help you to succeed. In this event, you will have the opportunity to hear stories from successful Caltech Entrepreneurs, and have a close interaction with them. This event is hosted by Caltech Entrepreneurship Club and OTTCP in collaboration with Innovate Pasadena's Connect Week.

Raymond Weitekamp - Founder & CEO of polySpectra

Raymond Weitekamp is the founder and CEO of polySpectra, a startup with the mission to accelerate innovation in advanced manufacturing. polySpectra's core technology is based on a discovery Raymond made during his PhD research at Caltech, which unlocks a fundamentally new way of fabricating advanced materials. This process, termed 'functional lithography', enables energy-efficient manufacturing of complex part geometries with tailored properties, with the potential to unlock a new paradigm of sustainable, democratized manufacturing.

Calum R.I. Chisholm – Founder & CEO of SAFCell

Calum is the founder and CEO of SAFCell, Inc., a startup that develops and commercializes solid acid electrolytes for fuel cell and hydrogen generation applications. SAFCell develops scalable solid acid stacks for applications requiring tens of watts to tens of kilowatts and up to 100 kg of compressed hydrogen per day. Based on technology developed at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), and operating at mid-range temperatures around 250°C, SAFCell stacks tolerate impurities that pose obstacles for other fuel cell/hydrogen generation technologies, while still using durable and inexpensive metal and polymer components. This combination results in rugged stacks that operate easily on commercially available fuels, greatly reducing overall system complexity and cost. SAFCell is partnering with targeted system integrators to enter first portable, and then stationary power and hydrogen markets. SAFCell has earned, raised, and been awarded a total of $20 million dollars since 2010.

Working with many exceptional collaborators, Dr. Chisholm has published 22 scientific papers and holds 24 issued patents.

Aditya Rajagopal - Founder & CTO of ChromaCode, Inc.

Dr. Aditya Rajagopal is the Founder & CTO of ChromaCode Inc., a multiplexed diagnostics company, and a Visiting Associate in Electrical Engineering at California Institute of Technology. He has fifteen years experience in various engineering disciplines. He has invented and developed multiple technologies at Caltech, which has resulted in a number formation of multiple companies commercialize these efforts. He has authored over 50 patents and publications.

Marios Demetriou - Founder & Chief Innovation Officer of Glassimetal Technology

Dr. Demetriou is the founder & Chief Innovation Officer of Glassimetal Technology, a company aiming to commercialize metallic glass manufacturing using proprietary materials and technology. He received his PhD from UCLA in 2001. Between 2001 and 2015 he was employed at Caltech, initially as Post-Doctoral Scholar and later as Research Professor, working in the field of metallic glasses in collaboration with Professor William Johnson. In 2010, he and Professor Johnson founded Glassimetal Technology.
