ABOUT THE BOOK

'Who controls the past controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.'

'War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength.'

George Orwell's dystopian masterpiece, Nineteen Eighty-Four is perhaps the most pervasively influential book of the twentieth century. Commented by many as the 'book of a lifetime', Orwell’s novella is a warning for the human race. It highlights the importance of resisting mass control and oppression.

BOOK & TALK

This SOAS alumni book club, entitled ‘Book & Talk’, takes place bi-monthly on SOAS campus. The book is usually chosen from SOAS’ reading lists, as well as books that are relevant to what we teach and believe in SOAS.
