ALP Columbia University Conference on Pronunciation Pedagogy
"Integrating Pronunciation into Communicative Activities" [Schedule]
Students can often pronounce discrete sounds correctly in isolation and in structured practice exercises. However, this correct pronunciation does not always transfer when students are speaking more freely, as they need to do outside of class. The sessions in this conference will focus on how to teach students to integrate the pronunciation points they have learned into less structured practice such as discussions, role plays, and other communicative activities.
The conference will begin with a plenary address by renowned pronunciation expert, Linda Lane, author of the popular Focus on Pronunciation series and Tips for Teaching Pronunciation (Pearson). This will be followed by four concurrent sessions and one hour of mini-presentations, as well as a networking/happy hour. Complimentary continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.
