"Along Came Kinky" Screening & Conversation
Date and time
Description
2016 isn’t the first time Texans head to the polls with an outsized personality atop the ticket. Today, it’s the bombastic businessman Donald Trump. A decade ago, it was Kinky Friedman, the singing Jewish cowboy-turned-author waging a raucous (and sometimes raunchy) independent gubernatorial bid.
Join The Texas Tribune, the LBJ Presidential Library and the Austin Film Society for an evening of film and conversation: A screening of director David Hartstein’s 2006 documentary Along Came Kinky…Texas Jewboy for Governor, followed by a discussion on the psychology of celebrity on the campaign trail, moderated by Tribune Editor-in-Chief Emily Ramshaw.
*Advance RSVPs for this event are sold-out. Entry to the event will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis.*
Panelists include:
- David Hartstein, director of Along Came Kinky...Texas Jewboy for Governor
- Laura Stromberg Hoke, former adviser to Kinky Friedman
- Jason Stanford, former adviser to Democrat Chris Bell
- Rob Johnson, adviser to Gov. Rick Perry
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the film will begin promptly at 7 p.m. The conversation begins at 8:30 p.m.
The event will be held in the 10th Floor Atrium at the LBJ Presidential Library. Visitor parking is available in Lot 38 (map and directions).
This event is presented by the Austin Film Society, the LBJ Presidential Library and The Texas Tribune.
Disclosure: The moderator for this event is married to the film's director.
