Event description
A one-day retreat and writing workshop led by author and lay Zen teacher Beth Jacobs, Ph.D.

About this event

Allowing Emptiness to Fill the Page will be a day dedicated to writing practices that honor the Buddhist path. We will start with a discussion and experiential techniques that illustrate the overlap between mindfulness training and expressive writing. Using material from the Abhidharma, Mahayana sutras and the writing of Eihei Dogen, we will also demonstrate how personal writing can enrich study of the dharma and provide a space where teachings come to life in creativity.

Beth Jacobs is the author of The Original Buddhist Psychology; Long Shadows of Practice: poems; and A Buddhist Journal. She facilitates expressive writing groups for children, teenagers, and grandparents. She has taught Abhidharma classes at several sanghas and has co-taught “Abhidhamma and Buddhist Thought” through the Mid-American Buddhist Association and the University of Kelaniya in Sri Lanka.

Registration for this retreat is on a sliding scale from $20 - $60. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Please contact info@valleystreamszen.org to request a scholarship.
