About this event
TARGET AUDIENCE
Physicians, physical therapists, certified athletic trainers, nurses, chiropractors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other clinicians specializing in active patients.
PURPOSE
The Allina Health Orthopedics Sports Medicine Conference is intended to deliver high-yield cutting edge information regarding the latest in popular sports medicine topics that will enhance providers daily practice.
This is an opportunity for providers of various trainings to:
• enhance their clinical skills.
• improve their ability to diagnose injury type, location and severity.
• understand implementation of various treatment plans.
OVERALL OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this activity, the participant should better be able to:
• Describe methods to establish resilience as a provider; recognize opportunities and resources available for providing mental health support to athletes.
• Recognize current concussion assessment and treatment best practices.
• Identify the impact of biologic treatments including platelet rich plasma in soft tissue and articular applications.
• Discuss gender-specific musculoskeletal and physiologic challenges in female athletes.
• Summarize athlete hip pathology and treatment options including operative and non-operative approaches.
KEYNOTE
Dr. Nancy Cummings holds a BS from Bates College and an MD from Columbia University. Her Residency was through The Harvard University’s Combined Orthopedic Program where she was the first female Orthopedic Chief resident in the history of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She has practiced Orthopedic surgery for 30 years in both the academic and private practice setting. Most recently she was on staff at the Mayo Clinic and was the head Orthopedic Surgeon for the WNBA Minnesota Lynx. She is also a past president of the Maine Medical Association; the focus of her presidency was physician health and wellness. She has recently returned to Maine and is dedicated to helping physicians achieve work/life balance having personally experienced the challenges of balancing a surgical career/motherhood and personal wellness.

ACCREDITATION
Physician : Allina Health is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
Certified Athletic Trainers : Allina Health Orthopedics is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to offer continuing education for Certified Athletic Trainers.
Physical Therapy (MBPT): Minnesota Board of Physical Therapy has been approved for 8.0 CE hours.
