How to get there

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) was signed into law with comprehensive healthcare reform and the Patient Protection Act in March of 2010. The ACA is designed to make preventive care services like family planning and related services more accessible. ACA enrollment will be upon us shortly, beginning October 1, 2013 with coverage starting January 1, 2014.

To help prepare you for how the ACA will impact your work and affect our communities, we are hosting a workshop on Sept. 11 at the San Diego Gas & Electric Renewable Energy Resource Center. In this workshop, we will explore ACA enrollment with an overview of multiple health plans and eligibility, discuss the community clinic perspective on ACA, and consider ACA’s potential impact on the underserved in San Diego and Imperial Counties.

Confirmed presentations:

  • “Changes to Healthcare” by Robin Hodgkin, Director of Imperial County Public Health Department
  • “Affordable Care Act from the Clinical Perspective” by Dr. Afshan Nuri Baig, Chief Medical Officer of Clinicas de Salud del Pueblo
  • “Beyond outreach: It’s time to ‘In-reach.’ Welcome to 2-1-1” by John Ohanian Chief Executive Officer of 2-1-1 San Diego
  • “Covered California Imperial County Outreach & Education Strategy” by 2-1-1 SD-Imperial & Catholic Charities

Please RSVP by Sept. 6.
