2/28 Wes Felton
Wes Felton the D.C. born singer/poet/emcee began his career as a teenager. His career has flourished, providing opportunities to share the stage with the likes of Mos Def, De La Soul, Meshell Ndegeocello and others. His collaboration with GRAMMY nominated crooner Raheem DeVaughn titled ‘CROSSRHODES’ exudes his rooted style of Jazz, Hip-Hop and Soul.
MILK$ (pronounced Milk Money) is a hip-hop duo based out of Washington D.C. comprised of MC/producer Parabellum Raps and DJ/producer Avervge. The duo released their debut album Zodiac Sines in August 2016 which boasts seven skillfully crafted tracks reminiscent of analog-era production that bridges influences ranging from West Coast G-Funk to DC’s Go-Go music legacy. Still managing to pay homage to the sample based rhythms and styles of hip-hop’s vinyl crate-digging heritage, their anti-cookie cutter compositions always find a way to evolve into something far beyond the typical looped beat formula.
4/25 Jay Mills
The real JAY MILLS is the DC born, self-proclaimed Pam Grier of Hip-Hop. She has hit the stage with the likes of Kelis, Rah Diggah and others. A classically trained musician, JAY MILLS began her career at the age of 4 years-old. Her transition from spoken word to rap was influenced by Jay Z, Ghostface Killah, Lil Kim as well as D’Angelo and Erykah Badu to name a few.
Back from their European tour, the socially conscious lyrics of WOLM (World Of Light Media) conveys a positive train of thought. Founding member Shamir Spencer and his brother Nyce are skillful musicians, producers and emcees; they’re on a mission to bring a state of awareness not only to hip-hop music but culture as well. Their mentors are respected veterans: Chuck D, Kool G Rap and Big Daddy Kane.
Described by those who listen as Hip-Hop, Alternative, Rock and Soul wrapped up in one, the group Leftist consists of the diverse talents of Nurideen Bashir, Mouhamad Diabate, Mahir Maruf, Mark Hatcher and Ebadullah Ebi Ebadi. The group was formed in 2009 and draws inspiration from the likes of The Roots, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nas and Stevie Wonder.
7/25 Dior Ashley Brown
Dior Ashley Brown has been deeply rooted in the performing arts since grade school. She is affiliated with every noteworthy arts institute in the area including Duke Ellington and the University of Maryland Theatre of Arts. An award-winning artist, independent emcee, actor, poet and host; Ms. Brown is an active board-member, mentor and owner of Unique Extremes, a creative consulting company.
8/29 DJ 2-Tone Jones
Remember the crate digging DJs of the past, DJ 2 Tone Jones epitomizes that genre. This international DJ has rocked parties from London to Lebanon. A member of ‘Sound of the City’, he has provided tracks for multi-talented musicians, songwriters and producers including Marsha Ambrosious, Bilal, Dwele, the late Chuck Brown, Tracey Lee, Chrisette Michelle and others.
