All That Sax!: A History of the Saxophone

This course will detail the exciting and sometimes hilarious history of the saxophone from its birth in Belgium in the late 1830's to its growth as a classical and jazz intrustrument to its prominence in all forms of today's music. The class will feature rare recordings of early saxophonists and there will even be a chance to view an uncommon 1920's era bass saxophone!
Dr. Jordan Smith is currently an Adjunct Professor at Georgian Court University and St. Peter’s University. He is a performing saxophonist and is the conductor of a saxophone ensemble program for the Youth Orchestra of Central Jersey. His teaching studio in Princeton services 30 saxophonists.
