ALIGNING INTERESTS: entrepreneurs & investors

TIME: 9:00-12:00

This event is aimed at entrepreneurs, developers, angel investors & venture capitalists with an interest in the start-up ecosystem and how this can develop and grow in Scotland.

Promising to be one of this year’s standout business sessions at Turing will be the Aligning Interests: Investors & Entrepreneurs, bringing together respected global players in the start-up investment world.

The panel of start-up experts, spanning both investors & entrepreneurs of various types will discuss the question of what makes a great start-up ecosystem, as well as specifically looking at the issue of Scotland's critical lack of seed funding & how this might be remedied. Participating from the floor will be many members of Scotland's investment community as well as the country's best technology entrepreneurs and developers.

Brian Caulfield: DFJ Esprit
a VC

Brian is a successful technology entrepreneur turned angel investor and venture capitalist. Two of the technology businesses he founded were acquired for a combined total of over $100M. Brian has since been heavily involved in investing in technology in both Dublin and London. He is also a partner at pan-European VC DFJ Esprit.

Brendan Richardson: ex Vision Capital (California/Switzerland)
an expert view from the US

Brendan is a seventeen year veteran of Silicon Valley venture capital and PE investing. During his eight years at Vision Capital he was responsible for sourcing and funding deals throughout Europe. Following his VC career, Brendan went on to co-manage the PE fund investing activities at Investure, a $7Bn consortium of Endowments and Foundations. Since 2009, he has been an Adjunct Professor at the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia, one of the top rated business schools in the US, where he teaches entrepreneurship and venture capital investing. In addition to teaching, Brendan focuses on building entrepreneurial ecosystems and fostering start-up cultures in areas outside of Silicon Valley. He is a Global Scot and has been heavily involved with NorthFace Ventures, a group that aims to raise a Scottish-based seed fund for investing in very early stage tech.

Nigel Eccles: CEO of Fanduel
a local successful entrepreneur

Nigel is co-founder and CEO of Fanduel, the leading developer & operator of daily fantasy sports games. Fanduel has cornered a rapidly growing market in the US, originally based in Edinburgh where it raised its seed and Series A round. Sam Collins: CEO of Eventasaurus
a local "exiled" entrepreneur
