Description

Algolia Search Party — Performance time!

For the first Search party after Summer, we’ve invited speakers from Google and Mozilla to join us on October 18th for a special night. We’ll be talking about performance, from a back-end to a front-end perspective!

We’ll deep dive into how we measure the performance of the Algolia search engine, how to build smooth and performant animations on the Google Arts & Culture app, and we'll also learn more about Rust, the most performance-oriented systems programming language.

Whether you focus on front-end or back-end, it’s time to mingle with your fellow developers and share a fajita. Yes, we’ll have fajitas to spice up the party!

So, join us for three great talks at our Paris HQ followed by delicious food and drinks at the Algolia Search Bar ™.

Performances at Algolia: A developer’s perspective

“Milliseconds matter” is one of our motto. What does it mean for development cycle of our core engine ? This presentation will focus on the tools we set-up to keep track of our performance during development, how do we explore environment and hardware that run our software and how does it impact our day to day coding experience.

Maxime Sarri, UX Engineer at Google

How to do smooth animations

Maxime is working in the Google Arts & Culture team. They are building an app and website which aims to give access to culture to people with just an internet connection through high-resolution images of artworks or virtual visits of the museums. To provide the best experience possible to their users, the team has to work on making the app and the website as fast and smooth as they can. Maxime will show you how.

Felix Klock, ‎Research Engineer at Mozilla

Rust: Fearless Programming at all Levels

Rust is a systems programming language aimed towards the future, providing the trifecta of safety, parallelism, and low-level control over your program. Rust is also a community of people who want to enable developers of all backgrounds and all levels of experience to become lauded "low-level systems hackers" (whatever that may mean). This presentation discusses at a high level how we accomplish these goals; it also discusses the new features coming in the 2018 Edition of Rust, with a special emphasis on using Rust to target WebAssembly.
