Event description

Description

Treat your dad this Father's Day to something special: a walking tour of Alexandria's Historic Breweries. Brewing in the DC area began in 1770 with the arrival of Edinburgh-born Andrew Wales, and the city was also home to the Robert Portner Brewing Company's massive Tivoli Brewery. The tour explores alleyways, repurposed buildings, historic taverns, brewing artifacts in the Alexandria Archaeology Museum, a 1793 ice well - and of course Alexandria's magnificent colonial-era architecture.

Northern Virginia Magazine rated this tour #6 in its list of “67 Adventures Every Northern Virginian Must Take” (August 2015). The tour route is a 2.5-mile walk, and participants should wear comfortable walking shoes, dress for warm weather, and bring water. People are often thirsty for a beer after this tour, and participants are invited to join in an optional post-tour happy hour at a local establishment (cash bar).
