Event description

Description

If we want better outcomes, we must have the courage to demand better from our leaders.

Alexandra knows something about courage: in 2006, as a transgender woman, she was one of the first in the U.S. intelligence community to transition on the job. As a candidate for office in the 3rd Massachusetts Congressional District in 2018, she did not take PAC money and continues to lead the charge against big money in politics.

Alexandra will be speaking about the impact of big money in politics; her experience as a candidate; pending election reform legislation and how “we the people” can take action.

Alexandra is also featured in the March 12th release book, Why I Run: 35 Progressive Candidates Who Are Changing Politics*, a collection of original essays from women, people of color, LGBTQ people, and progressive allies who ran for office in 2018. Contributors share what inspired them to run, what it takes to win, and what lessons can be learned in the face of a loss. With an endorsement from Hilary Clinton and foreword from U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth, Why I Run is a powerful testament to the importance of following your principles in a precarious political landscape.
