About this event

WHERE: Alder Springs to Deschutes River Confluence

WHEN: Thursday, October 6, 2022, 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM

RATING: Moderate to Difficult, 6 miles total, out & back. Whychus Creek crossing.

GUIDE: Cindy Murray 541-815-1404

This hike starts along a scenic ridgeline and steeply descends into the Whychus Creek canyon. Walking sticks can be helpful for hiking and wading the stream. After crossing the creek, the trail will follow Whychus Creek to the confluence of the Deschutes River. The confluence offers classic scenic views of the typical volcanic ash-lava flows with very colorful layers built into the canyon walls and Autumn colors should be spectacular. The descent into the canyon is steep and keep in mind that we must hike back up at the end of our hike! Bring your binoculars, standard hiking equipment includes sturdy boots, lunch, water, extra layer, and hiking poles. Wading shoes & a small towel. Sunscreen, hat and rain gear are advisable. No pets allowed.

This is a free hike, limited to 8 participants and registration is required and available at www.fansofdeschutes.org one month prior to the hike date. If the hike is full, your name will be added to the waiting list. We will contact you if space develops.
