Description
Participants will have the opportunity to develop the following skills/increase their
knowledge about:

Understanding Environmental Prevention strategies: Messages, Access, Policy, Social Norms

Learning about criteria and key steps in successful community led alcohol initiatives
-
Exploring potential alcohol prevention projects and campaigns that can be implemented in local communities
This training introduces the framework of environmental prevention, a community
change approach that examines many factors influencing what may be perceived as
isolated, individual choices. Participants will have the opportunity to have the nuts and
bolts of environmental prevention based initiatives that focus on restricting underage
access and use of alcohol and using that knowledge to explore initiatives that will
impact their respective communities.
About the organizer
San Mateo County Health System's Community Health Promotion Unit presents the Prevention Learning Academy. Attendees will learn about substance use and prevention efforts, including the root causes of substance use and abuse.

Who should attend? Our target audience includes: prevention professionals, coaliton members, faith-leaders, parents, school staff, law enforcement, non-profit and county agency staff, policy makers and others.
What will attendees learn?
Core learning objectives include:
- Understand the health impacts of substance use
- Learn how to conduct environmental strategies to prevent substance use in San Mateo County
- Build and share knowledge and skills to practice substance use prevention locally

Learning sessions do not require prequisites.
