Event description

TOPIC FOR AUGUST: Winning Strategies for North Texas Giving Day!

Alchemy is a community of nonprofit professionals who gather monthly to network with other nonprofit people; share resources & expertise; find a mentor/be a mentor; and make the world a better place (together)!

It's part non-profit networking group, part community of like-minded people, part nonprofit mentor connection, and part educational resource for your nonprofit questions. The format of the meeting will be as follows:

  • 6:00-6:30 pm: The first 30 minutes will be informal networking - introduce yourself to your nonprofit neighbors
  • 6:30-7:00 pm: 2-minute introductions of yourself, your organization, and one question (if you have one!) that you brought to the meeting, or why you're here (if you didn't bring a question).
  • 7:00-8:00 pm: Topic of the night. During this period of our meetings, members will share their expertise. Some of our upcoming topics include: Fundraising 101: Tips and Tricks; Social Media for Nonprofits; To Database or Not (and where?!); Developing Your Board; Writing Winning Grants; Taking Part in North Texas Giving Day; HR Compliance for Nonprofits; etc. We may have guest speakers from time to time!

Q: I work with nonprofits as a consultant/vendor, but I don't work or volunteer for a nonprofit directly: is this event for me?

A: Nope, this isn't the event for you! While we may have events that are open to those not involved directly in nonprofit work in the future, this group is primarily geared toward nonprofit folks: board members, volunteers, and nonprofit staff included.

Q: I'm a volunteer or board member at a nonprofit: is this event for me?

A: Depending on your level of involvement in nonprofit work, this could be a great way for you to get to know other nonprofit practitioners and better connect with the nonprofits serving Denton County. If you work with or for a nonprofit in a volunteer or board capacity, you are welcome to attend. Note: Please refrain from selling nonprofit-related goods or services at this event, as this is not the time or place for that.

Q: I'm a student interested in getting into nonprofit work in the future: is this event for me?

A: Students are welcome, IF they are active volunteers, board members, or staff at a nonprofit in Denton County. If you're looking for a nonprofit to volunteer for, be sure to check out!

Q: I'm in the process of starting a nonprofit: can I come to this event?

A: Absolutely. This group is for nonprofit people, whether you're just entering the nonprofit sector or whether you're a seasoned veteran.

Q: I work with a nonprofit that isn't in Denton County, but I live in Denton County: is this event for me?

A: Sure! We welcome all nonprofit people in our neighborhood!

Q: Does this event cost?

A: West Oak Coffee Bar is a coffee shop, so we encourage you to purchase the beverage of your choice (and perhaps a snack), however, the meeting is free to attend, and Alchemy is free to be part of.

Q: What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There is ample free parking in and around downtown Denton!

Q: Where is the West Oak Coffee Bar?

The West Oak Coffee Bar is on the north side of the Denton Square on W. Oak Street between Elm and Locust.

Q: More questions that weren't addressed here?
