Alan Ross on Ansel Adams
Event Information
Description
Alan Ross is a renowned photographer who worked side-by-side with Ansel Adams as his photographic assistant and who knows Adams's approach and technique perhaps better than any other photographer today. He was personally selected by Adamsl to be the exclusive printer of the Yosemite Special Edition Photographs in 1975, an assignment Alan continues to this day, making each print by hand from Adams’ originalnegatives using traditional darkroom techniques. In his autobiography, Ansel stated that Alan "makes the images with sensitivity...and interprets them as closely as possible to my original fine prints." Alan's talk will survey Ansel Adams' landscapes, as well as lesser known subjects, including his portraiture, commercial work and socially conscious documentary photography. A $5 admission at the door will directly support the Sierra Club.
