Event description
Join us as we kick-off the Alabama Chapter of Women Leading Government.

About this Event

We are excited to bring to Alabama a chapter of Women Leading Government (WLG), a sister organization to the International City and County Management Association (ICMA), the most respected industry organization dedicated to promoting and improving professional local government around the globe. Alabama is the 12th state to have a chapter of WLG. Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Massachusetts, Missouri, Ohio, South Carolina, Utah and Texas all have chapters. This is a BIG DEAL for our state, and we want to invite all of you to be a part of this organization. As women devoting our careers to local government and service, we need to identify the biggest challenges faced by women who choose a career in local government, whether serving in a public safety, public library, utility or recreational setting or as city manager, planner or public works professional, we are all public servants. There is power in coming together to solve issues, develop strategy, further our education and create dynamic networks. Our mission is outlined below:

National Women Leading Government Mission: To help women succeed in public service by enhancing career-building models that develop leadership skills and by networking professional women in government.

Alabama WLG Mission: To encourage women to pursue careers in local and state government and, through networking and education, help prepare women for success in the unique local government communities across our state.

We are pleased to announce WLG’s first conference will be held at the Pelham Civic Complex on Monday, February 25 with a networking event beginning at 8:00 am. The conference will run through 1:00 and include lunch. We are also excited that ICMA’s new president, Karen Pinkos, has agreed to travel from California to be our keynote speaker.
