AI+TECH | February 25th @ IFTF, 201 Hamilton Ave, Palo Alto

Machines that can “see,” “speak,” and “think” were once the stuff of sci-fi fantasies, but they are common parts of our everyday world. Siri allows us to have conversations with computers and Facebook can recognize us in photographs. We’re even starting to see self-driving cars share the roads with us. Artificial Intelligence research is advancing rapidly and is generating plenty of interest, excitement, and fear. What are the most transformative uses of AI being developed right now? How can we ensure the technology is used responsibly? And what does responsible use even mean? Join us for AI+TECH, to hear from leading thinkers and makers working on AI technology and AI-issues today.

FEATURING...

MOSHE LOOKS

Inference Engine Researcher at Google

Moshe is a Software Designer and Researcher at Google where he conducts research in program induction and artificial general intelligence.

He is a practitioner of artificial intelligence as originally conceived: a sister discipline of cognitive science, concerned with the mechanization of human thought. His approach is integrative and based on the construction and combination of methods and inductive biases that exploit progressively more and more of the patterned structure of reality. Eventually, this will exceed the limited amount of structure that humans currently exploit. Along the way, he uses these methods to build systems that solve hard problems in computational biology, defense, and finance.

GRACE VESOM

Senior Computer Vision Engineer at Magic Leap

Grace works on computer vision and machine learning at Magic Leap. She was previously the Director of Development at the Open Source Computer VIsion Library (OpenCV) and an Applied Computer Vision Research Scientist at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory.

ANDREAS STUHLMÜLLER

Ph.D. student in Brain and Cognitive Sciences at MIT and Stanford

Andreas works in Josh Tenenbaum's Computational Cognitive Science group and in Noah Goodman's Computation & Cognition lab at Stanford.

The question that drives his research is: How can we better solve our problems? Machines are potentially much better at answering hard questions if such questions can be posed formally. For example, given a formal model that describes how diseases cause symptoms and a formalized prior belief about disease rates, machines can reason precisely about what observed symptoms imply.

ARJUN DUTT & BRIAN PIERCE from METAMIND

Arjun drives business development at MetaMind. Before joining MetaMind, he spent five years as a Principal in Bain & Company's Technology practice, followed by a stint at Quid, where Arjun led a sales and client service team and helped double company revenues during. Arjun received a BS in Electrical Engineering with high distinction from the University of Rochester and an MBA from Duke University where he was a Fuqua Scholar. When he's not working, Arjun loves spending time with his wife and two young children and enjoys biking, kayaking, documentaries and video games.

Brian received his bachelor's from University of Illinois in Engineering Mechanics, and his Masters from Stanford University in Mechanical Engineering. While at Stanford, Brian researched high performance computing and computational fluid dynamics funded by the Stanford Graduate Fellowship, and participated in the Advanced Scientific Computing Leadership Computing Challenge. In his free time, Brian enjoys playing volleyball and ultimate frisbee.
