The soft rock duo Air Supply of Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock met in 1975 during the first day of rehearsals for "Jesus Christ Superstar" in Sydney, Australia. They quickly gained a reputation for great harmonies featuring Hitchcock's soaring tenor voice and Graham's original songs. Air Supply, named because both founding members have air zodiac signs, began a decade of controlling the pop album and single charts by releasing one hit after another.
Lost In Love became the fastest selling single in the world, leaping to the top of all of the charts.. The second single was All Out of Love, and that went up the charts even quicker along with The One That You Love, Sweet Dreams, and Making Love Out of Nothing at All. The collection of hits would earn them the awards only a few years later. But what really started them on their multi-million selling bonanza was being named opening act for Rod Stewart’s worldwide “Footloose and Fancy Free” tour in 1978.
