The Student Conference is an exciting opportunity for college juniors and seniors studying design to meet with professionals in their industries, as well as engage in diverse workshops that are both fun and inspiring. The Conference can also be intimidating, and preparing for it can be a daunting task.
This year, we're offering students an opportunity to better prepare themselves for both the Conference and for the beginning of their careers as designers. In partnership with Maryville University, we have designed a short 2-hour lecture/panel discussion for students all around Saint Louis.
Lecture: What To Do Post-Interview - So you've impressed your interviewers with your amazing work, your glowing charisma, and your dedication to design. But what now? Do you send a thank you note (the answer is yes)? Do you email? Do you respond to their thank you for your thank you?? Learn about post-interview etiquette, and land that awesome job.
Speaker: Pamela Franklin, Creatives on Call: Pamela Franklin, lead recruiter at Creatives On Call, stands out among local St. Louis creative industry recruiters. Pamela immerses herself, both on a personal and professional level, with the creative community. She knows the industry from her years of managing people and projects as an account executive in several local agencies. Who else could attract this city’s best advertising talent than a true St. Louis advertising veteran like Pamela? Pamela is not just an ordinary recruiter. She naturally attracts candidates with her caring and inviting personality. Candidates appreciate that she goes beyond the current impersonal recruiting techniques of so many other creative recruiting agencies. Pamela creates a comfortable and relaxed interviewing environment for every candidate. She pays close attention as they explain what they have done in the past and what they want to do going forward, while giving them advice on how to improve their portfolio and resume. Most importantly, she listens then encourages and aligns the candidates with the most appropriate employers for temporary, permanent or freelance assignments. Pamela puts stock in her personal approach, as well as in the advanced Creatives On Call technologies. Both EMMA™ and the DesignersProof™ help her in assessing skills and matching up opportunities and candidates. It’s not hard to see why the candidates feel empowered when Pamela takes them under her wing. Pamela works tirelessly each day along side our lead Account Executives to source the right companies for her candidates who are looking for their next position in Advertising, Marketing, Graphic Design, Digital, and Communications. Be sure to look for her outside of the office; whether it’s at an AdClub event or a student portfolio review. You know she’s near when you hear her signature laugh ring out among a circle of people in a crowd! She gets involved with the candidates because she believes in St. Louis and the advertising folks that make it great!
Panel Discussion: What Do We Want From You? It's hard to know exactly what the companies you're interested in want to see in your portfolio. Sure, there are typical requirements that you should probably meet...but what sparks their interest? Experimental spirit, impeccable technique, or concept-driven thinking? Each company and each designer is different. With this panel discussion, you'll have the chance to ask your questions directly to the ones you might be hiring you in the future, and they might provide you with powerful insight into the design industry.
