Event description

Description

Come network with industry leading Machine Learning and AI influencers for a Tech Talk in Palo Alto on November 8th! Light Appetizers and refreshments will be provided.

Tech Talk Topic:

Chatbots ushered in a new era of conversational interfaces when they exploded into mainstream last year. Now that chatbots and virtual agents have entered the lives of millions upon millions of people, it’s a good time to ask: How well are they working? In this talk, we will look at how successful chatbots have been, with a particular focus on their ability to fully understand natural language utterances and provide human-like assistance in customer support situations. One of the keys to natural language understanding is world knowledge, and we will also talk about automated ways of mining world knowledge from the Web.

Speaker Bio:

Justin Betteridge, co-founder of Solvvy, studied computer science and linguistics at Brigham Young University and then completed a MS and most of a PhD in Language Technologies at Carnegie Mellon University, where he worked with Tom Mitchell to build the NELL system (http://rtw.ml.cmu.edu), which was featured in the NY Times. He loves (human) languages and computers, in that order, and enjoys working toward his ultimate career goal of building computer systems that can converse fluently with humans.
