Event description

Description

AI brings hope for disrupting drug discovery. Also, it brings a lot of hype, as if no lessons were learnt from previous winters in both AI and computer-assisted drug discovery.

In this meeting, we will discuss these hopes and hypes.

The Tryst is a suitable place for this discussion, located in the center of Washington DC,
a vibrant area in Drug Discovery, with nearby NIH, FDA, and also In Silico Medicine, a company producing a lot of AI research, sometimes contributing to the hype.

I blogged about specific examples here:

“AI in drug discovery is overhyped: examples from AstraZeneca, Harvard, Stanford and Insilico Medicine ” https://medium.com/the-ai-lab/artificial-intelligence-in-drug-discovery-is-overhyped-examples-from-astrazeneca-harvard-315d69a7f863

"You didn’t need deep learning to generate new molecules"

We will also discuss practical solutions to this hype problem.

The meeting is free and open to everyone.

Organizer: Mostapha Benhenda, PhD, founder of the online AI lab Startcrowd https://www.startcrowd.club
