Ahava Theatre Presents: Bake and Nosh
Event Information
About this Event
Thursday, March 25th at 5:15pm ET
Class Description: In this class, you will learn the anatomy of a gluten-free cake! A standard cake uses flour and leavening agents such as baking soda and baking powder, but leavened and fermented products are prohibited during Passover to commemorate the Jews' freedom from Egyptian slavery. How in the world can we produce a cake if we can't use flour and a leavening agent? Lisa will teach you about the chemical reactions that occur in a standard cake and what adjustments are needed to create a fluffy risen treat without typical ingredients. Join us for a baking adventure and have your mind blown by the science behind the substitutions. Not to mention, you'll have a delicious cake to bring to your Covid-safe seder or family gathering! For ages 7 and up. Adult Supervision Required.
About Lisa: Hi! My name is Lisa Graye and I'm the owner and founder of Little Graye Bakery, a female-owned and operated bakery dedicated towards systemic change. I am also an actor and theater artist who has performed off-broadway and regionally in productions such as Friends! The Musical Parody, (St. Lukes Theater), Mamma Mia (Mill Mountain Theater), The Little Dancer (Theater 81, NYC). Growing up just outside of New York, my Judaism is extremely important to me and continues to hold inspiration for many of the bakes I do. Can't wait to bake with you!
