Introduction: Our first Aging2.0 meeting will be held in Boston on October 17, 2012. We are being hosted by the wonderful Redstar Ventures Team, who are incubating some innovative ideas in this space, and hosted an excellent salon on business opportunities in aging at the end of last year. I regularly point people interested in getting up to speed with the key business issues in this space to watch that video - it's really well done.
Background: Aging2.0 (@agingtoo, #aging2) is a global network of innovators working in the 50+ market. We are creating an interdisciplinary, collaborative community of people from business, research, policy, design and technology, together with older adults themselves in order to advance innovation and improve the quality of life.
Our events bring people together informally over drinks and good discussion. We generally run from 6-9pm, which includes a networking break, and generally include talks from 'thought leaders' about interesting themes in the space followed by short (5-minute) pitches from startup companies in the space.

(Big Picture talk:) Steven Gullans, PhD, Managing Director, Excel Venture Management
Topic: Is it Time to Consider an Upgrade?
Steve is an experienced investor, entrepreneur, writer, and scientist. At Excel, he focuses on life science technology companies with a particular interest in disruptive platforms that can impact multiple industries. He is currently a board director at Activate Networks, Tetraphase Pharmaceuticals, PathoGenetix, nanoMR, Cleveland HeartLab, and Catch.com and previously at BioTrove, Biocius, and RxGen, where he was co-founder and CEO.
Steve was a faculty member at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital for nearly 20 years. He has published more than 130 scientific papers in many leading journals, lectured internationally, and co-authored numerous patents. He and Juan Enriquez recently co-authored Homo evolutis: A Short Tour of Our New Species, which describes the future of human evolution, as well as a recent commentary in Nature entitled Genetically Enhance Olympics are Coming.

Mitt Romney's administration where she oversaw his cabinet and led the state's business and technology efforts. Renee is currently the president of the Harvard Business School Alumni Board New England (HBSAB). She was the chair of the HBSAB New Venture Contest and a board member of the Ignite Clean Energy Contest. She served as the director of business development for the Charles River Ventures funded Celarix, Inc. She holds an undergraduate degree from the Pennsylvania State University and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

Paul Franzosa is a leader and technologist specializing in embedding electronics and software into smart devices. Since 1984, he has spent his career in product development, bringing novel technologies to market, building and leading teams at startups, and managing engineering in diverse, international, cross-disciplinary environments covering industries that includes toys, consumer products, healthcare, industrial, wireless, and public transit. He is a co-inventor on a number of technology patents. Paul is currently heading up Podimetrics' Product Development effort to make a healthy feet system for diabetics. He is also acting as technology and product development consultant and mentor for a variety of startups in the greater Boston area.
