Event description

Description

The Cambridge Business Analysis Community is delighted to invite you to a great night of Agile Games with a serious twist!

Agile is a term often thrown about in the software industry. It's not uncommon to hear company employees talk about how they are agile; to find a certified instructor delivering training; or a consultancy heading up an agile transformation. As BAs we're put in an interesting position when it comes to agile and common questions come up, are we POs? or what are we now? Does that mean I'm no longer needed? Those questions are valid concerns for any BA coming across Agile. The Games Night is all about learning some of the things in Agile, focused around the BA.

Scrum Game

The Scrum Game is a playful way to familiarise people with some of the concepts of Scrum. you'll learn about velocity, story estimation, yesterday’s weather and the cycle of life. The goal is to make development and business people work together, they both play both roles. It’s especially useful when a company starts adopting Agile or for a new team. In this session, feel what it is like to be part of a scrum team but in a fun way with origami and lego! As a BA in an agile team, acting as a product owner in this game, you'll be needed to make quick decisions and be accountable for those decisions.

Prune the Product Tree

As a BA, you might be asked to take on the role of Product Owner in an Agile team. In doing so, there are some new things you might be exposed to, including prioritisation and roadmapping. In any product the backlog of work almost always exceeds the amount that can be done. In this game, you'll be introduced to techniques to manage that backlog. Experience the impact of stakeholders of saying no, saying not yet and working towards a vision.

Retro Fun

Agile methodologies refer to continuous improvement regularly. Yet retrospectives and ways of continuously improving are often neglected for various reasons, including delivery pressures and perceived lack of value. Neglecting retrospectives can prevent teams reaching their potential. Retrospectives can be fun and can be as varied as you'd like. As a BA in a retrospective, you've got unique insight - you're an analyst and you're a facilitator. With this skillset, you can make a difference to these retrospectives, you can make your team great! In this game, you'll experience a CBAC retrospective, take away ideas to make your retrospectives valuable and see just how BA techniques are amazingly transferable.

So come and join us for a great session that promises to be interactive and fun, and learn along the way! As always, there will be plenty of opportunity to network before and after the event. We look forward to seeing you there.
