Marquee Lecture: Dr. Stuart Brotman
The Pathway to Internet Freedom
As the Internet continues its development as the dominant global communications medium, its further growth and vitality depends on the ability of providers and users to have an unfettered ability to send and receive information in a variety of digital formats. This goal, which is reflected in U.S. foreign policy, is not shared by many countries, however. Professor Brotman will discuss the opportunities and obstacles for Internet freedom that lie ahead both in the United States and around the world.
Dr. Stuart N. Brotman is the inaugural Howard Distinguished Endowed Professor of Media Management and Law and Beaman Professor of Communication and Information at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. This academic appointment is the only one of its kind in the world. He has taught students from 42 countries in six separate disciplines: communication, journalism, law, business, international relations and public policy. He is a frequent analyst for leading newspapers and magazines, including Fortune, Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, Time, and The Wall Street Journal. He also has provided expert commentary for CNN, ABC's World News This Morning, NBC's Today Show and NPR's Morning Edition. He appears as a featured speaker at major academic and industry conferences in North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, Latin America and the Middle East.
