Following the film screening, writing workshop leader Michelladonna (bio below) will facilitate an interactive story sharing workshop create a community space for audiences to share their COVID19 stories.

About the Film

Aftershocks - A Tetralogy of Our Times is a mosaic of short narratives, animation and montage art that explores love, humanity, and connecting while socially distant from the unique perspectives of Caribbean American communities in New York City during the coronavirus pandemic.

At first conceived as a five short plays, COVID19 restrictions inspired our producer to embrace smartphone technology, animation, and montage video techniques and other virtual mediums to reimagine the project as tapestry of COVID19 moments.

AFTERSHOCKS is written by Haitian-American actress/playwright/producer Magaly Colimon-Christopher, and Borinquén-Chapín-Bronx playwright/director/ poet/producer Juan Ramirez, Jr. Directed by African American Pat Golden and Jamaican American Teisha Duncan; editing/animation by Jamaican American Andre Sutherland; score composed by Jamaican musician MiJANNE; photography by Haitian American artist Marissa Joyce Stamps, illustration by Elijah Leonard.

Film Synopsis:

Take a journey with us through Queens, NY from 2020-2021 and witness offbeat, love-filled stories of Caribbean American characters endeavoring to overcome the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

When a Jamaican-American woman suffering from COVID19 self-quarantines at home alone, she struggles to find the words to leave an uplifting video message for her husband who is hospitalized with the same condition.

ABOUT OUR WORKSHOP LEADER

Michelladonna is an actress, comedian, producer and community organizer from Queens, NY. She is the creator and host of the I’m Finna Talk (@imfinnatalknyc) workshop/open mic series, which provides free events for Queer Black and Brown creatives in NYC. She is passionate about comedy, art creation and community. She has also been featured on the HBO series Game Theory with Bomani Jones in Spring 2022. Michelladonna received the 2021 City Artist Corps Grant for “I’m Finna Talk”, making sure to re-invest into the arts and the community. She is focused on sharing her communities’ unique experiences with the world.
