Event Details

We cordially invite you to join us for an afternoon in our beautiful forest. It’s high time you explored our beautiful island’s temperate rainforest by way of our Suspension Bridge – or from a bird’s eye from our Canopy Tower. Pack up the turkey or Tofurky sandwiches and enjoy your picnic lunch in one of our cozy covered Treehouses. No matter what the weather, our trails offer unparalleled beauty and comfort during this holiday season. Our friendly staff and volunteers can’t wait to greet you and suggest a customized route for your self-guided trail adventuring.

IslandWood's trail systems will be open this day only for your self-guided exploration.  Spend the day and enjoy our woodland trails as you set your own pace for exploration, discovery and yes, even solitude in our woods.  Proudly join the ranks of other families who choose to #OptOutside for Black Friday!

Journey leisurely down the Spine Trail and traverse the ravine on a suspension bridge. Climb our Canopy Tower to get a birds-eye view of the land – we’ll have friendly docents to guide you at this structure. Meander through hemlock and red-cedar woods and make your way towards Mac's Pond to scout for ospreys and eagles. Head up the Cemetery Trail and peek in the Mill Worker's Cabin or head south to explore the more elusive "Lower Loop Trail" full of mossy wonders, maidenhair ferns, and hooty owls. Heading back to campus, take the Spine Trail north and weave around the cattail marsh, stopping at the Bird Blind to observe waterfowl and other wildlife. Both treehouses will be open for your visit, too!

We'll have maps for you so you can find your way around and will be happy to suggest a route that is suitable for your family and abilities.  You never know what you'll find walking along the path with you...
