 AFTERNOON ADVENTURES

AT KINHAVEN

 It’s 1:00 and the fun has just begun!

Kinhaven School offers a variety of optional afterschool enrichment activities led by members of our own staff and by visiting teachers. PLEASE NOTE: Some days have more than one Adventure option.

Afternoon Adventures are open to children aged 3 years or older on September 30.  Students from Grasshoppers, Sunbeams, Comets, Rising Stars, and Rainbows are eligible to participate.

Please read each description carefully noting start and end dates as not all sessions are of equal length.  Registration is first-come, first-served.  Kinhaven reserves the right to cancel any class session due to under-enrollment.

 


 MONDAYS

Movement and More with Ms. Ebony                                                       

MONDAYS, ‘til 2:15pm. September 12, 19, 26; October 3, 17, 24, 31; November 7, 14, 21, 28; December 5, 12, 19; January 9, 23, 30.   

Movement and More offers gross motor skills through primary dance and physical education instruction. Coordination, rhythm, balance, body awareness, and flexibility are introduced in creative and imaginative ways. We use fun and upbeat music to learn basic locomotor skills like hopping, skipping, jumping, leaping, and galloping. Ebony Day, PE teacher and founder of the Ebony Day Dance Company, leads our movers and shakers through warm-ups, center work, and practice stations to foster both skills and teamwork.

TUESDAYS

The Science Seed:  Planting a Love of Science                                       

TUESDAYS, ‘til 2:15 pm. September 13, 20, 27; October 4, 11, 18, 25; November 1, 15, 22, 29; December 6, 13; January 3, 10, 17, 24, 31.

Children are natural scientists; curious and full of the desire to observe and explore. Instructor, Ms. Debbie McCrery, will plant The Science Seed teaching geology, chemistry, biology, physics, nature and nutrition in fun, interactive and age-appropriate ways. Through teacher directed activities, opportunities for children to explore and make discoveries, and related stories to tie it all together, your young scientist will investigate: Magnets, Levers and Pulleys, Senses, Energy, Solid-Liquid-Gas, Volcanoes, and more!  www.thescienceseed.com

 WEDNESDAYS

 ZAR Soccer                                                                                                     

WEDNESDAYS ‘til 2:15pm.  September 14, 21, 28; October 5, 12, 19, 26. November 2, 9, 16. December 7, 14; January 4, 11, 18, 25; February 1.

ZAR Soccer Academy offers a premier soccer training experience for all ages.  A specially tailored curriculum initiates a positive experience for young players to help them learn the basic fundamental skills of soccer in a fun and energetic environment.  Along with teaching the fundamentals, we also focus on the development of a child’s general motors skills, overall coordination, body awareness, balance, and movement in a non-competitive environment.  Zach Roszel, founder of ZAR Soccer Scademy and a former NCAA Division 1 soccer player, coaches with passion and purpose. Whether he’s leading Little Tots programs or coaching competitive level players, Zach brings his love of the sport to the field.  Play with Purpose is not only his company motto, but is also something he lives by.                                                                                                                                                                                                       (Ms. Ebony assists)  $370 ($355 for 1:30 dismissal students)

 

Hola, Amigos!

WEDNESDAYS ‘til 2:15pm.  September 14, 21, 28; October 5, 12, 19, 26. November 2, 9, 16. December 7, 14; January 4, 11, 18, 25; February 1. 

Through engaging small group activities, games, and songs children gain exposure to other cultures and global communication skills.  Join Kinhaven teacher Jennifer Romero for this active introduction to Spanish.  The amigos will meet the family, visit the house, experience seasons and holidays, and hone greetings and pragmatic language skills.  Children complete a theme-related craft or activity to reinforce the newly acquired language.  Vocabulary and culture information provided for families at the end of each session.  Class size limited to seven.                    $370 ($355 for 1:30 dismissal students)

 

 


 

 

 THURSDAYS

 Sports and Movement by Just for Kids                                                      

Thursdays ’til 2:15. September 15, 22, 29; October 13, 20, 27; November 3, 10, 17; December 1, 8, 15; January 5, 12, 19, 26; February 2.

Introduce your preschooler to the “fun”damentals of team sports with Coach T of Just for Kids, whose coaching staff has been offering sports classes in the DC area for the past fifteen years.  During our sports and movement classes your child will build motor skills, experience teamwork, and develop a positive attitude toward fitness and athletics.  Beginning with playground-style ball and movement games, the class will then experience age-appropriate versions of traditional sports allowing your child to try t-ball, baseball, yoga, flag football, soccer, and lacrosse in one semester.  http://www.coachjohnjenkins.com

FRIDAYS

Freaky Fridays:  Art through Everything; Everything through Art       (Ms. Jennifer assists)

 Fridays ‘til 2:15pm.  September 16, 23, 30; October 14, 21, 28; November 4, 16; December 2, 9, 16; January 6, 13, 27.

Spend Fridays with our own Ms. Michelle and discover art and beauty through EVERYTHING!  Delve into the connections between nature, science and self-expression through visual and performing arts.  Classes are organized in mini-themes of a few weeks to provide deep exposure to art media and a whole lot of messy fun.
