Event description
A reading of the play AFTER THE WAR + pre-show holiday reception with special guest and playwright Philip Kan Gotanda

About this Event

Director: May Liang

Location: Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California in the Issei Memorial Hall

Ferocious Lotus Theatre Company is kicking off the holiday season with a special play reading and pre-show reception featuring new Artistic Director May Liang along with playwright and esteemed Advisory Board Member Philip Kan Gotanda.

Join us before the show for libations, appetizers, and holiday cheer along with May, Philip, Company members, and the cast of the reading of AFTER THE WAR, a story set in post-WWII in the Western Addition district of San Francisco. Showcasing themes and identities that Ferocious Lotus seeks to hold up and investigate, this story explores the conflict and tension created when circumstances force people of different cultures and identities to battle for limited space, both physically and societally.

The play centers around Japanese Americans returning from the internment camps who try to re-establish their lives while a rush of newcomers from the American South as well as abroad push to make new lives for themselves in a changing neighborhood.

Suggested donation accepted at the door: $15-$25 (reading only)

Play reading: 3:00-5:00 p.m.

Pre-Show Reception: 2:00-3:00 p.m. Tickets for the reception: $35 (includes light refreshments and ticket for the reading)

Ferocious Lotus Theatre Company (ferociouslotus.org) presents new plays and musicals, as well as re-imagined established works, primarily employing the nation’s top professional Asian American theatre artists.
