Event description

Description

Natural disasters wreaked havoc on the insurance industry in 2017, the costs of which nearly doubled from the previous year. Financial losses from earthquakes, hurricanes, and wildfires totaled an estimated $306 billion. This topic cannot be dealt with properly without including the risks associated with climate change, and its impact on increasing the magnitude and frequency of these disasters. We will discuss how to assess, mitigate, and manage the risks involved in both the urban and agricultural sectors of our economy. We’ll also explore the actuarial climate index, weather derivatives, and other risk management tools related to this topic.
