After-School Clay with Ms. Brown
Tue, Mar 21, 2017, 3:30 PM – Tue, May 2, 2017, 5:00 PM EDT
After-School Clay with Ms. Brown is open to students in JK-3rd grade who have an interest in getting their hands dirty with some clay.
After-School Clay with Ms. Brown meets Tuesdays from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m., March 21st - May 2nd, 2017. There will be no class on Tuesday, April 4th due to Spring Break.
Students will embark on an in-depth exploration of hand-building with clay. We will learn how to use coil and slab building techniques to create sculptural pieces, as well as functional items like mugs, sugar bowls, spoon rests, and vases. We will discuss and gain inspiration from Picasso’s sculptural pitchers, as well as ancient and contemporary African, Japanese, and Native American ceramics. Special emphasis will be placed on the surface treatment of clay—we will experiment with sgrafitto techniques, glazes, stamping with found objects, as well as splattering, stenciling, drawing, and painting underglazes on our artwork.
1. What if I need additional childcare after 5:00 p.m.?
If you need additional childcare after 5:00 p.m. our Enrichment program will be available at a pro-rated rate of $10 per day. This program is available until 5:30 p.m. Students may ride the Activity Bus for $6 per day. Daily drop-in services like Enrichment and the Activity Bus should be communicated and coordinated through your lead teacher.
2. Will there be make-up days if there is a snow day?
Typically we don't offer a make-up day to offset a snow day. If there is to be a make-up day, that would be at the sole discretion of Ms. Brown.
