The holidays can be a tough time of year for many families and children. In order to do our part to help, come join us for a special art class with Emily Johnson where a portion of the class proceeds will go to benefit Christmas is for Kids in order to help local children in need. This class will cover foreground, middle ground and background, the rule of threes, and where to best position your characters in the scene. Learn about finding the right references for your environments and creative ways to use those references. We will also touch upon "vignette" illustrations, which go along with storybooks or comics. Kids are more than welcome to bring references in from home. Supplies and take home worksheets are included.
If you cannot attend this class but still wish to help Christmas is For Kids, simply click the "donate" button on the ticket options.
Emily Johnson is a local artist from the neighboring town of North Attleboro, and has been drawing and sewing for as long as she can remember. Her passion is illustration and comics, and she is currently working on illustrations for her first children's book. She also has a passion for soft sculpture, which is sculpture using thread, fabric and stuffing, and has participated in many artisan craft fairs selling her sculptures and mobiles. Emily has taken classes and instruction at many different schools, such as RISD, MassArt, Eliot School Jamaica Plain, The East Side Art Center, Cambridge School for Adult Education, and The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She believes art makes us powerful and teaches us to see in a different way, and she also believes that everyone can learn to draw!
