After Hours Textile Tours at Britex Fabrics
Wednesday, February 12, 2014 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM (PST)
San Francisco, CA
This social after-hours excursion, made up of part Britex tour, part textile 101, starts on the Main Floor of Britex Fabrics. We'll share with you a bit of unknown history and talk about how fabrics from all over the world end up in our San Francisco store. We'll show you where to find what you're looking for in this floor-to-ceiling finely curated and solidly-packed store. From wool coatings and imported designer silks on the Main Floor to outdoor adventure wear and laminated linen on the Fourth Floor, you'll know the ins and outs of this 62 year old establishment after this two-hour tour.
We'll also talk about the basic textile categories and how they are created using different fibers, yarn construction, weaves and knit styles. Be sure to bring a notebook–this after-hours excursion is as densely packed as this four-story building.
When & Where
A San Francisco landmark since 1952, Britex is a must-visit for designers, sewers, do-it-yourself-ers and anyone seeking creative inspiration. The four-story, family-run store contains fabrics, laces, ribbons, notions and buttons from around the world.
With our workshops and tours, we hope to encourage our local makers to make well and be proud of their designs. It is also our goal to be a point of social connection and educational resource for San Francisco Bay Area designers, businesses and fabric lovers.
