Description

Adoptive Parents what do you need for you toolbox?

AFSN is offering 3 training topics on the same day. You can register for 1, 2 or all 3! If you attend 2 or more of the trainings, AFSN will provide lunch for you.

Sorry, Childcare is not available for this event.

Topics are as follows:

#1)The Trauma Lens Workshop with Stacey Goodson 9:00-10:30am - This training will briefly go over the basics of trauma and explore a more in depth understanding of behaviors based on trauma and how to deal with them in a way that heals. The workshop will consist of a variety of learning formats and engage parents of all levels of experience. Stacey is an adoptive Mom herself and has endless knowledge about trauma.

#2) Sensory Processing with Carley Stender 10:45-12:15pm - Everyday Play’s owner and Occupational Therapist, Carly Stender, will be presenting on why the sensory system is important and how it is impacted by trauma. As an adoptive mom herself, you are sure to leave with practical tips and stratagies! You will learn about the process towards self-regulation, so that kids can more independently calm themselves when they are feeling out of control. You will also leave with practical tips on strategies that can be used in the home during everyday routines such as transitions, bedtime, and mealtime. There will be discussion amongst those in attendance to discuss sensory strategies that have been helpful in their home, because as a community, we can learn so much from each other’s experience. This presentation will be helpful for both the parent who is asking, “sensory, say what?” and for the parent who can speak sensory lingo in their sleep.

12:15 - 1:00pm - Lunch Break

#3) Neurofeedback with Joe Kohley 1:00-2:30pm - Neurofeedback helps to create flexibility and resilience. Come and learn how Neurofeedback works and the potential benefits for your family. Joe is an adoptive parent himself and has been trained on using Neurofeedback since 2005.
