Description

Afro-Brazilian Rhythms and Dance: A workshop for drummers and dancers of all levels

10:00am arrival for a 10:30am start. In the morning, everyone will work on rhythm and movement with percussion. Drummers and dancers will then have access to separate spaces to learn and rehearse their parts with time towards the end to bring the two together to experience dance with live percussion!

The day, led by Jon Hardeman and Angeles Fiallo Monteiro will focus on aspects of Orixa rhythms and dance, adapted specifically for Samba-reggae drums and dance. Drawing directly from the rhythms and dances of the Orixás, using patterns, phrases and dance movements from the Ketu and Angola traditions of Candomblé and of course Samba-Reggae, drummers and dancers will learn two pieces for the warrior Orixás; Ogum, the path maker and clearer of obstacles and Oxossi, the hunter, the Orixa of purpose and aim. Expect a fun and informative day, we'll be producing dynamic Afro-Brazilian drum and dance, Samba-Reggae style.

Samba Reggae instrumentation will be taught on the day with parts for: Surdos, snares, repeniques and timbas
