Event description

Description

The African Diaspora Council (ADC) is extending you an invitation.
In keeping with our goal to find and recognize outstanding individuals in the Diaspora who are making great contributions in their chosen field, we are hosting a special breakfast honoring Dr. Samuel Achilefu on May 11th, 2019 from 8:00-10:00 am, at FUTURE HOME OF AFRICAN CULTURAL CENTER, former Grace Lutheran Church located at 1425 Ferguson Avenue, Saint Louis, MO. 63133.

This is an opportunity to introduce the tremendous work of a prominent and accomplished son of Africa and to join together in celebrating his achievements. He is currently the Director of the Optical Radiology Laboratory and a Professor of Radiology, Biomedical Engineering, and Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics at Washington University School of Medicine here in St. Louis, Missouri.
Dr. Achilefu’s work is an inspiration and his story needs to be shared with all.

One of his latest inventions popularly referred to as the “cancer goggles” has won him global accolades, a game-changer in the treatment of cancer. The goggles allow doctors to isolate and see cancer cells during surgery. A surgeon wearing the specialized goggles can see the malignant tumors glow once the near infrared light is beamed.

Recently, he also discovered a novel treatment paradigm for cancer using a special type of light and non-therapeutic doses of drugs to selectively trigger cancer cell death while preserving healthy tissue. Dr. Achilefu has published more than 250 scientific papers and he is the inventor of 56 issued patents. He is the recipient of several honors and awards, including the Distinguished Investigator Award (Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program; 2016).

It is with much pride to note that such an individual is a member of the St. Louis community and will be delivering a keynote address at the upcoming African Diaspora Council celebration of Distinguished Africans. Honor us with your presence at the special event on May 11, 2019.

Please RSVP and pay by April 16, 2019.
