To be held in Kenya

Global Philanthopy Project and UHAI EASHRI invite grantmakers invested in Africa’s LGBTI and sex worker human rights movements to register for an Africa Donors Meeting, June 17-18, 2019, as a Pre-Conference to the 7th Changing Faces, Changing Spaces Conference (CFCS VII), June 19-21, 2019.

Please note: Early Bird Registration ends April 30, 2019.
Final Registration Deadline is May 31, 2019.

The CFCS VI Africa Donors Meeting in 2017 brought together 75 grantmakers from 35 organizations, representing a diversity of public and private foundations, individual and corporate funders, and government agencies, embassies, bilateral and multilateral agencies.

Changing Faces, Changing Spaces Conference (CFCS VII) is Africa’s largest convening of the continent’s LGBTI and sex worker movements and donors. CFCS provides for direct and active interaction among activists and funders allowing for mutual learning as part of wider advocacy to narrow the knowledge gap between those that resource African movements and those that do the work. More than 200 activists from across 30 African countries, and 75 donor representatives attended each of the last 2 editions. The 7th CFCS, which is planned for and conceptualised by an activist task force representative of the LGBTIQ and sex worker organising on the continent, is themed Visibility, Voice...Freedom!

For more information, you can read the 2017 CFCS VI Conference Report here and the donor pre-conference report is available by request (contact

2019 marks UHAI’s and GPP’s 10th anniversaries, since their establishment in 2009. Hence CFCS VII will provide a special moment for reflection and commitment.

What does the registration fee cover?

The registration fee covers return transfers between Nairobi airport and the conference venue, conference registration and materials; up to 5 nights accommodation (or 1 night in the case of the donor pre-conference registration only), all meals, teas and receptions, conferencing costs; and all associated payment processing fees. Applicable registration fees include all transaction and processing fees, and no additional fees will be charged/deducted beyond these fees.

Is there any specific travel guidance for attending CFCS?

Yes. For security reasons, the CFCS venue will not be announced at any point. Instead, UHAI will handle local transport for all from and to the Nairobi airport, or Nairobi's Central Business District in the case of participants already in Nairobi. UHAI will take the best possible security precautions and measures in selecting and preparing the meeting venue, and the venue will be privately reserved for the exclusive use of CFCS.

Travel Dates

If coming from outside Nairobi, indicate arrival plans: airline, date, time in the ticketing process. UHAI will arrange transfers June 16-17. If arriving earlier, arrange own airport pick up and we arrange venue transfer from Nairobi June 16 and 17. We recommend early morning arrival June 17.

If returning outside Nairobi, indicate departure plans: airline, date, time in the ticketing process. UHAI will arrange transfers June 18/21/22. If only attending the Africa Donor meeting, we recommend departure early morning on June 18. If attending the main conference, we recommend departure in the afternoon of June 22, because we will have a social evening late on June 21. If leaving later than June 22, we’ll transfer you to a central location in Nairobi on June 22, and you may later arrange your own airport transfer.

How about visas?

Donor participants will arrange their own visas and international air travel. For security purposes, we request all donor participants applying for visas to apply for tourist (and not business) visas indicating a possible stay in a Nairobi hotel of choice.

How can I contact UHAI with any logistics questions?

Direct questions to Roselyn Odoyo (roselyn at or via skype at: roselynodoyo.

I have heard of the "activists-donors speed dating" session. What is that about?

Not your traditional dating! Within the conference programme the "activists-donors speed dating" session is a speed-meeting session between activists in Africa's LGBTI and sex worker movements and donors invested in the movements, pointed at expanding donor and activist knowledge on available funding, current organising needs and priorities, making new relationships, and deepening and expanding existing ones. We will share more details with registered participants as the conference date draws closer.

Once I complete my registration, can I update details later?

Yes. We realise registrants may not have information such as travel details when completing registration. So you may return to your account to update information later. Click 'contact organiser' if you have any difficulty updating information or write to mutisya at uhai-eashri dot org.
