About this Event

Date: Wednesday, September 11, 2019

Time: 11:30AM (no host cocktails), meeting noon - 2:00PM

Location: Basque Cultural Center, 599 Railroad Avenue, South San Francisco, CA

Speaker: Abraham D, Sofaer, George P. Shultz Fellow in Foreign Policy and National Security Affairs, Emeritus, Hoover Institution

Topic: US - Iran Relations Since 1979

Is negotiating with Iran an option? If so, how? If not, what other options exist? Is Iran willing to commit to changes in the JCPOA that could satisfy concerns? Is the only solution regime change? How likely is that to happen?

Abraham D. Sofaer, who served as legal adviser to the US Department of State from 1985 to 1990, was appointed the first George P. Shultz Distinguished Scholar and Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution in 1994. During his service as legal adviser, he was responsible for US-Iran negotiations at the Iran/US Tribunal in The Hague. Dr. Sofaer is the author of Taking on Iran: Strength, Diplomacy, and the Iranian Threat.

We will also be taking a moment to honor the passing of Therese LeGallo, our immediate Past President at this meeting.
