Event description

Description

California is mired in a housing crisis that will require us to massively increase housing development over the next five years. How can we ensure that these new developments remain both affordable, comfortable and achieve low carbon emissions performance targets?

PHCA and the Association for Energy Affordability are pleased to host Tim Weyand and Zack Semke of NK Architects for a special program focusing on Affordable, Multi-Family buildings being built to Passive House standards. Tim and Zack will share details of recent NK Architects projects located in Seattle, Pittsburgh, and Washington (DC) where a new, low-energy-load paradigm is opening a cost-effective pathway to revolutionary building energy efficiency. They’ll share project cost data from their buildings, as well as from a larger dataset Passive House construction budgets issued by the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency.

Nick Young of AEA will provide an introductory overview of the Passive House standard, how it compares to California Energy Code, and where it requires extra attention to detail relative to standard multifamily construction in California. We'll conclude with ample time for Q&A, and the event will conclude with beer, wine, and networking.

This program is FREE to PHCA members and $15 for the General Public. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED here on Eventbrite.
