Merging Health and Home

Our homes and our health are intrinsically connected to our overall well-being. By itself, affordable housing can’t meet all the needs of our most vulnerable populations. Neither can healthcare. But outcome-based evidence shows that by combining stable housing with medical and social services, we can best help low-income, aging, and homeless people in our community. Just one question: Where do we even start?

Our forum, part of Housing Development Consortium’s Affordable Housing week 2019, will explore how merging housing and healthcare can create better opportunities and more supportive communities.

Join Us Tuesday, May 14

First, we’ll share a case study of the Blackburn Center, Central City Concern’s award-winning facility in Portland, Oregon, which combines healthcare and affordable housing into one building. Ed Blackburn, CCC’s former CEO and president, will present alongside Mariah Kiersey, managing principal at Ankrom Moisan Architects. We will highlight how this project came to fruition, including the complexities involved in bringing together various organizations, funding, operations, the building design and why projects like this are so important to our communities.

Next, we’ll hold a moderated panel discussion featuring experts in affordable housing and healthcare to explore how bringing these two services together in one project can serve as a potential solution for vulnerable people in our community.
