Event description

Description

Of the 21 million victims of human trafficking, 68% are exploited for their labor. In the United States, the State Department and Department of Labor have partnered to expand guestworker visa programs that trap hundreds of thousands of workers annually in bonded labor arrangements. Guestworkers face food insecurity, live in cramped quarters, and have limited legal ground to fight back against employer abuse. The visa programs allow employers to hire cheap vulnerable labor, driving down wages overall. Over the past 15 years, Donald Trump's businesses have been granted approval to import at least 1,256 foreign guest workers.

Join us for a day of dialogue and strategizing with community supporters and advocates. Hear from trafficking survivors who are standing for their right to dignity, respect, and security.

Summit Program

Lunch will be provided.

Registration fees are based on a sliding scale. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds.

Our keynote speaker will be Saket Soni, Executive Director and co-founder of the National Guestworker Alliance and the New Orleans Workers' Center for Racial Justice. Saket has crafted and led acclaimed campaigns on critical workers rights and immigrant rights issues that have won far-reaching organizing and policy victories and earned nationwide publicity. Most recently, Saket is the convener and co-chair of the Future of Work Initiative, an experiment in social policy, grassroots advocacy, and public narrative to find solutions to the new American working majority; contingent workers who are experiencing the changing nature of work.
