Affecting Perception: The Art of Visual Hallucinations
Speaker: Dominic ffytche
Seeing something that is not there can be a life-changing experience. Whether through the pleasure or pain evoked by the experience itself or fear of its portent, visual hallucinations change your perspective of the world and your place within it. Dr Dominic ffytche, from the Institute of Psychiatry at King's College London, will show how artwork inspired by visual hallucinations help us to understand the workings of our visual brains. He will also discuss how some visual aspects of the hallucinated experience can even defy depiction in the real world.
