Event description

Description

In this 6 week session, students will create a highly detailed stained glass window based on an Aesop’s fable. Students do not have to be experts at painting, as existing images will be collected and traced in class. Before the first class, with Cavalieri’s help, students will choose a fable and collect imagery.

Techniques learned in the first class will include using diamond files and sandblasting ‘flash glass’, hand painting, air brushing, ‘pen-and-ink drawing’, as well as cutting, copper foiling and soldering stained glass. We will be using enamel paints that are kiln fired onto the surface of the glass. This technique dates back to Medieval times and was used in stained glass windows in Cathedrals throughout Europe.

As in Cavalieri’s past classes at UrbanGlass he will share information on lighting and framing work, provide worksheets to help you better focus on your work and life, and present ‘Marketing for Artists’, and ‘Artist Residencies’ lectures.

In his art career, Joseph Cavalieri finds his most popular works start with a strong concept and take discipline and hours of concentration to complete. Collectors can see this when deciding to buy art, and this is exactly what we will be learning in class.
