The Accelerator is part of The Ion’s Aerospace Innovation Hub, which is supported by the Minority Business Development Agency. Join us as we celebrate the launch of the Accelerator’s first cohort!

During this event, we will hear from thought leaders on the importance of the Hub, learn about what the Hub means for the Houston-Galveston Region, and meet the startups and MBEs selected for the first cohort of the accelerator.

About The Speakers

Dr. Jan E. Odegard is the Interim Executive Director of The Ion. Prior to joining The Ion, he was the Executive Director of the Ken Kennedy Institute at Rice University, focusing on building strategic partnerships to serve as a catalyst for research, education, and external engagements. Dr. Odegard has 20 years of experience supporting and enabling research and life-long learning engagements in computing, data science, and information technology. Odegard was an associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Stavanger, Norway, and served as department chair in 2000 - 2001. He was the founding executive director of the Computational Mathematics Laboratory and research associate in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rice University. He served as the founding executive director of the Rice Center for Multimedia Communication. In 2009, he received the Michael Pearlman Memorial Service Award from Rice University and was elected Senior Member of IEEE in 2002.

Mrs. Vanessa E. Wyche is the Deputy Director of the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC). In this role, Wyche assists in leading an organization of nearly 10,000 civil service and contractor employees in Houston – including those at White Sands Test Facility in Las Cruces, NM – in operations and development of human spaceflight programs. JSC is home of NASA's astronauts, Mission Control, human missions in low earth orbit and plans for future missions to the Moon and Mars. Vanessa is the former Director of Exploration Integration and Science (EIS) at JSC where she guided efforts to enable human and robotic exploration of deep space leading to missions to Mars. As Director of EIS, she led a multi-disciplined organization of engineers and scientists with responsibilities for progressing NASA’s exploration technology and science, including curation of extraterrestrial samples and utilizing the International Space Station (ISS) as a test bed for advanced technology. EIS also assists with maintenance of the ISS by management of its extra-vehicular activity capability. Excelling as an engineer and manager during her government career,
