Event description

Description

Learn, Grow, Advocate

What is an advocate? Why do I need to get involved? How do I meet and talk to my legislator? These questions and more will be answered at the MNCCD Advocacy Training.

For those new to advocacy, a panel of skilled advocates will share information about:

  • Advocacy and why is it important
  • What issues are important
  • How to tell your story
  • How to schedule and meet with your legislator

For the seasoned advocate, there will be several breakout sessions:

  • Kevin Lindsey, Human Rights Commissioner, will discuss the intersection of disability services and human rights
  • Charles Young, DHS Disability Services Division, will discuss the role DHS plays in the legislative process and how the Department of Human Services can work with stakeholders.
  • Darlene Zangara, Director Olmstead Implementation Office, will lead an interactive session sharing information about how people with disabilities can live, learn, work, and better enjoy life in the community.

Invited legislators include Representative Jamie Becker Finn and Senator John Hoffman.

If you have questions contact Jo at jo@mnccd.org.
